Jennifer Fox says she hasn’t always been lucky, but she certainly felt fortunate recently.
The Simcoe resident won the Morison Insurance and Tri-County Insurance Group’s $50 draw to help Indwell, a southern Ontario charitable housing organization, win funding from the Aviva Community Fund.
When Jennifer was contacted about winning the money her first reaction was “I beg your pardon”. That was followed by “Yes! The voting! Yes.” And then she did a happy dance.
Jennifer lives at Indwell’s Simcoe residence, Hambleton Hall, which she describes as a great place to live. She especially likes the common kitchen, computer lab and the lounge.
Jennifer was one of the hundreds of people who voted in support of Indwell’s submission to the Aviva Community Fund to win $100,000 for a community kitchen being built at its Parkdale Landing development in east Hamilton. The voting contest was held earlier this month and the Indwell project attracted more than 13,000 votes.
The Aviva Community Fund is a national contest which sees more than $1 million donated each year to support charitable community projects and groups across Canada. The projects which receive the most voting support win funds for their projects.
For eight years, the fund has been investing in charitable community initiatives across Canada. Aviva, which operates the fund, has provided more than $7.5 million in funding, with more than $1 million to be donated this year.
Jennifer said she was very pleased to vote. Indwell has helped her and others, she said. “They help us and I help them,” she said.
