What is esthetician insurance?
Esthetician insurance is a variety of commercial business insurance coverages designed to address the perils estheticians are likely to encounter by offering financial protection against paying out-of-pocket for liability and damage restoration expenses. When considering the coverage provided by esthetician insurance, Ontario beauty industry professionals should understand that multiple types of coverage are available that can generally be categorized into property insurance and esthetician liability insurance policy. Both types are ways of transferring risk from yourself to your insurance company, as your insurance carrier is agreeing to pay you compensation up to the coverage limits on your policy when you make a claim for an insured peril.
Suppose your commercial space, equipment, or tools are destroyed or lost because of natural disasters, fires, vandalism, theft or other factors listed on your Ontario esthetician insurance policy. In that case, the property damage portion of your coverage is what will prompt your insurance carrier to offer you the compensation necessary to restore, replace or repair your damaged property or belongings. These types of esthetician insurance coverages are significant because you need your commercial space and equipment to offer your services, and regardless of how cautious and conscientious you are, sometimes property loss happens for reasons you really can't control. Certain types of property insurance coverage can also offer you financial assistance with loss of income while recovering from a catastrophic event like a fire.
Esthetician insurance coverages protect you from financial loss when you are sued by a third party alleging that you have damaged their property, caused them bodily injury, or suffered losses due to your negligence, misconduct, and more. The exact situations in which you can make a liability claim vary based on the types of liability coverages you have in place with your esthetician insurance. Ontario esthetics professionals can expect their liability insurance provider to respond to liability claims for expenses such as legal mediation, legal defence fees, medical bills, property replacement, other settlement costs, and more, depending on how the policy is written, up to the coverage limits on the policy.
Who needs esthetician insurance?
Microblading professionals; eyelash and eyebrow technicians; manicurists and pedicurists; laser hair removal professionals; tanning salons; tattoo removal technicians; dermabrasion technicians; teeth whitening clinics; waxing, sugaring and threading technicians; and more.
Is esthetician insurance mandatory in Ontario?
Not legally required. But clients, suppliers and partners will refuse to work with you if you can't provide proof of coverage in the form of a certificate of insurance, and it's unlikely you'll be able to rent or lease a commercial location without commercial property insurance on your esthetician insurance in Ontario.
Does my home insurance cover my home-based esthetics business?
Home insurance does not cover business claims. If fire destroys your work equipment, it is not covered under home insurance. If a client sues for injury at your home-based business, it is not covered. You must have separate commercial coverages.
If I own a salon, does my insurance policy cover my employees?
Coverage can generally be extended to employees. Call your broker to add employees to your policy.
What is Rental Damage Coverage?
Rental Damage Coverage is listed in the optional coverages for estheticians. Speak with your broker to confirm scope and how it applies to your operation.
